Homeschooling

On the subject of homeschooling, there are many people that feel it is still inferior to public schooling, but why do they feel this way? Most of the time you'll get answers like, "Kids don't get proper socialization when homeschooled" or "I don't have time to do all that work". These may have been true at one time, but now are common misconceptions.

  1. True, glad I wasn't homeschooled.

  2. I guess the social aspect for a child is important, as long as he or she is attending other activities outside the home schooling to interact with other children I would home school my kids if I could.

  3. Thank you for this post!! Those are good points, but if you homeschool correctly and allow for your children's social development then it can work. I homeschooled my children for two years because we were zoned for horrible public schools. My oldest was in middle school at the time and he was getting bullied. His school had no interest in helping with the problem, so in the fear of his social development and confidence being forever effected. It was a much better option to keep them home and provide activities and outlets for their social skills to be developed. It does require a lot of planning and effort on the parent's part, but I'm very glad that we had this experience together. Now, with the approval and opening of more charter schools in the county, more educational options are available to children. Homeschooling shouldn't be discounted as an inferior educational option if there is a parent that is able to have the time in order to provide a valuable experience for their children. I am secure in my knowledge that I gave my kids a quality education during this time in their schooling.
